Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) Block Chiefs
Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) Block Chiefs: The Medical Student Teaching Center longitudinal integrated clerkship block chiefs are current Year 4 medical students who previously served as pre-clerkship peer tutors. The longitudinal integrated clerkship block chiefs assist rising third-year students in transitioning from pre-clerkship to clerkship. They provide a student orientation and tours at the beginning of each block, teach under faculty supervision, tutor on specific subjects as needed, and provide prep sessions for end of block objective structured clinical examinations. They also provide general mentorship using the Careers in Medicine Program under the guidance of the Office of Student Affairs. The number of longitudinal integrated clerkship block chiefs was increased from 10 to 12 in AY 2024-25 to 14 in AY 2025-26. This will ensure availability for Year 3 medical students needing help as well as distribute the load amongst the block chiefs as they prepare for residency and away electives. To strengthen the services provided, two lead block chiefs have been designated for AY 2025-26, one for Medicine and the Mind block and one for the OPSEF (Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine) block. They organize the schedules and support services for Year 3 medical students. They also ensure coverage and availability for students.
