West Texas Regional Poison Center

The Division of Medical Toxicology at TTUHSC El Paso is responsible for the medical direction of the West Texas Regional Poison Center (WTRPC) which opened in 1994. WTRPC provides answers to questions 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, about accidental and intentional exposures, poison prevention, medication identification and safety, product recalls and many other important topics relating to poisonings. In 2009, WTRPC was able to manage nearly 74% of human and animal exposure calls at the patient's home, totaling a cost savings of $4,216,050.

Medical Toxicology Consultation

The Division of Medical Toxicology provides consultation services that deal with a wide spectrum of threatening toxicological hazards in this region. The division is responsible for managing poisoned patients through bedside and telephone consultations in University Medical Center of El Paso and El Paso Children's Hospital. In addition, our telephone consultation service allows us to interface with other medical professionals from around the region to provide a high level of expertise in diagnosing and managing the care of potentially poisoned patients.
